Important Announcement!
With the passage of HB 18 in the 86th Legislative Session & SB 179 in the 87th Legislative Session, it is more important than ever for counselors to track their usage of time to ensure they are following their District’s new board policy (TASB will be providing support). The policy addresses counselor productivity compliance to ensure they are spending at least 80% of their time implementing the components of the Texas Comprehensive Counseling Program.
TxSP has just posted a new time tracker that automatically keeps track of time in counseling program duties (by component) and non-counseling duties. Be sure all campus administrators and counselors read this announcement for campus & District compliance.
Staff Development for Developing a Comprehensive School Counseling Program
HB 18 requires specified training for campus administrators on planning, developing, monitoring, evaluating, and adjusting the Texas Model Comprehensive School Counseling Program (HB18).
HB 18 requires counselors to have specified training on the components of the counseling program and how to implement the program.
SB 176 requires at least 80% of a counselor’s time to be focused on a comprehensive school counseling program.
TxSP has provided staff development to both campus administrators and counselors across the state and has had rave reviews! For example,
“So much more than I expected!”
“Best training I’ve had in 10+ years of being a school counselor!”
Counselor Calendars
For our subscribing districts, we have also posted and updated a guide for counselors on maintaining calendars – processes & guidelines. When following these guidelines, everyone in the building will know how counselors spend their time. The calendar also has color-coding that will help make the time tracking faster and easier.
